Similar in appearance to porcelain, it is extremely lightweight and resistant to cracking, with a smooth shiny surface that is solid and durable. Melamine resists temperatures ranging from -20°C to 70°C, making it suitable for use in refrigerators and freezers. It does not absorb odours and is easy to handle as it is not fragile. Melamine should not be heated directly or used to heat food in conventional or microwave ovens. Easy to wash by hand, using a non-abrasive sponge and neutral dishwashing detergent, and dishwasher safe, the use of chemical products and hot oil is not recommended—if sterilization is required, use hot water for no more than 20 minutes.
